I detail cars at a Lexus dealership part time and over the time I've seen a lot of different waxes.
I think Black Magic Wet Shine is one of the best waxes I've seen:
It goes on and comes off pretty easy and doesn't leave an oily look or leave behind some of that wax dust. It gives a good liquid crystal shine that lasts a long time. It even looks better after the second wash (in my experience)
We ususally use a Meguiars wax at Lexus. We've tried Meguiars NXT Generation Tech wax which goes on nice but leaves an oily look which looks horrible on dark color cars and you need alcohol to remove it. Typically we use Meguiars Cleaner wax. Its an ok wax that gives a good shine but it doesn't last and it gives off a wax "dust" when taking it off.

My current favorite is Meguiar's NXT Tech Wax 2.0 which I use on my Rainier (dark green) and on my old Bravada and Bonneville which were both black. Nothing but a nice deep shine. No oily look like you experienced Ryan... I either have an exceptionally good bottle or you had a bad one...
For a bit more work, I love the durability of the Meguiar's Gold Class paste wax. It is a bit more difficult to put on and to take off, but it lasts quite a bit longer for me than the Tech Wax.

I use the Meguiar's NXT aswell. Love how well it shines the black sunfire. I was using Turtle Wax Ice for a while, but didnt like how oily it left the car.
ya when i first did the black magic i didnt read the directions and it was a pain taking it off. then i read the directions and you have to let it sit a little bit before taking it off for the best results.
and ya i'm the same lol i take forever washing my tahoe going over every detail lol

I use Turtle Wax, but want to try something new. I now have ideas.
Dad taught me a trick for that. Take a used dryer sheet and a water hose. Mist over the area with the hose and get the bug leftovers good and wet for about 30 seconds to a minute. As you continue to mist, wet the dryer sheet and then scrub with the sheet until the guts are gone. One sheet lasts a while and I can get the hood typically with one, sometime I have to use a second one, especially if I need to do the side mirrors. Dry off to avoid water spots. Doesn't scratch at all but its just abrasive enough to remove anything stuck onto the clear coat without digging in. I have a black vehicle, I would know if this method did scratch haha.

I use this bug/tar remover. Can't remember the brand but it was kinda cheap. I spray the infected area immediately after I spray the car down before hitting it with soap. Then I just forget about it and go about washing it. By time I get to the front the bugs have turned to goo and just wipe off.
